Executive Assistant Job Opening

The Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission, a destination marketing organization bringing visitors to Virginia’s Eastern Shore, has a new position for an executive assistant to the director. This person will play an independent role managing revenue generating programs and directing administrative matters including finance, compliance, HR, legal, purchasing and event management. This position requires critical thinking, excellent research skills, complex problem solving, skilled prioritization, supreme organizational skills and common sense.

Sales
Educate local tourism businesses about marketing opportunities at the Welcome Center near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, and in the annual print guide and deliver on targeted sales goals. Develop new revenue opportunities like a merchandizing program and a digital advertising program.

Administrative
Manage the main office in Onancock and provide oversight to a remote office for all day-to-day operations. Process weekly, bi-monthly, monthly and annual transactions, maintain financial records to strict audit standards, analyze budget matters, track distribution channels, make purchases, review contracts and manage databases. Stage an annual Tourism Summit, a fall workshop, monthly board meetings and organizational meetings; arrange catering, logistics and meeting space.

Executive
Perform detailed research and analysis on vendors, policy questions, contracts and all related industry matters. Establish the director’s calendar for meetings, conferences and assist in preparation. Communicate with board, community and industry leaders and other key stakeholders. Attend meetings on behalf of the director. Act as a sounding board for the director, other staff and the board. Manage board meetings on behalf of the director in the director’s absence.

Cultural
Highly literate, able to communicate clearly and precisely in emails, reports, analysis and verbally. Technical competency, or adaptability, to Microsoft Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint, Windows OS, databases across multiple platforms, online payment systems, smart phones, social media and emergent software as it becomes critical to the organization. A lively sense of curiosity and the capacity to educate self and acquire new skills as the job evolves. Must have a deep commitment to the local Eastern Shore of Virginia community and act as a champion for tourism as an economic driver of the region.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Experience may be substituted in lieu of education. 

Experience
Three to five years experience in a high-performance business culture, history of progressive responsibility and proven track record of delivering results. Skilled at using Microsoft Office, excellent organizational and communication skills, ability to “close the deal” in sales.

Salary/Benefits
Salary: Starts at $38,500. This position will remain open until the right candidate is found.
Benefits: Paid annual vacation and sick leave. Paid holidays include week between Christmas and New Year’s.

Regular Monthly meetings (shall hold no less than 10 regular monthly meetings) of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission will be held the 4th Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. at 25-A Market Street, Onancock, VA 23417. The Commission holds workshops as needed, at least one per quarter, at 12:00 p.m. with the Regular Monthly meeting following at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend all meetings.
