The Federal-period home Chatham was begun in 1818 by Major Scarborough Pitts on land on Church Creek first patented in 1640. The buildings on the property reflect four centuries of continuous use as a working farm. The latest addition is the winery built in 2005. In 1999, the first five acre block of grapes were planted and today there are more than twenty acres of French Vinifera. The winery is open to the public. Free tours and tasting.

No experience necessary to paddle the serene waters beneath a soaring osprey and take in unspoiled farm and forest vistas. At the boutique winery learn the vine to wine story while you enjoy a tasting with the owners. Chatham stands on land farmed for four centuries and first patented in 1640. It was named after William Pitt, the Earl of Chatham and friend of the American Revolution. On the return paddle you’ll pull up to a tiny creek isle with your favorite vintage aboard. Time to toast your good fortune in finding the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

In addition to a beautiful location on the water, Chatham has a  well earned reputation for producing excellent award winning wines year after year.
