Get ready to set sail for adventure on the high seas with

Shipwrecked ~An Entertainment~

The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (as told by himself)

Just as Mark Twain was taking America by storm with stories of adventure on the Mississippi, Louis de Rougemont was cutting a literary swath across England with his own stories of adventures as a seafarer surviving treacherous storms, encountering man eating octopi, being marooned on a south sea island, and outwitting hostile natives. While Twain never claimed his books were anything other than great stories, de Rougemont presented his as a work of nonfiction, a full blown autobiography of a Victorian adventurer. First hailed as a hero, then debunked as a fraud, who was the true Louis de Rougemont? And if the story is entertaining enough, does it really matter?

A cast of thousands (or seven, depending how you count) awaits you in the Playhouse's production of this 'fantastical' story of one man's larger than life existence. Whether truth or fiction, this tall tale is engaging enough that it really doesn't matter!  Starring Greg Jones as Louis, his able assistants in storytelling include Ginger Knox Harmon, Caleb Haycox, Damien Kirkpatrick, Jeremy Lawrence, Cliff Murden, and Kassandra Smith.

Lecture on the Lawn at The Glebe  -  Machipongo
(7/27/2014)

Northampton Historic Preservation Society

Lecture on the Lawn at The Glebe

POSTPONED and will be rescheduled in the fall

If you have an interest in historical plantations in Northampton County, you may wish to join the Northampton Historical Preservation Society for an afternoon this fall at The Glebe, the home of Jack Wescoat.

The Glebe Lecture is presented as part of a Lecture on the Lawn series which will focus on homes on Westerhouse Creek.  Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 14th at Winona, the home of Mary and Herman Walker. Winona is estimated to date somewhere from 1645 to 1681. Its three chimneys are Jacobean in style and unique in Virginia – only the ones at Winona and Bacon’s Castle survive.

The Northampton Historic Preservation Society is requesting a $10 per person donation at the event. They encourage everyone to dress casually and ask guest to bring their own lawn chair and beverage of choice.  The event will be held only if weather permits.
