The Town’s beach extends one-half mile along Bay Avenue with a paved walkway bordering the length of the beachfront. Residents and visitors of the Town use the beach for swimming, sunbathing and similar recreational pursuits. Public access onto the beachfront is provided by two wooden walkovers located near the end of Tazewell and Randolph Avenues. The Pavilion and several park benches are located on a paved walkway. The Pavilion is one of the Town’s prominent landmarks, serving as a visual symbol for the Town and featured on the Town’s seal. Restroom facilities are also available for users of the public beach.
Relax on this small town-friendly beach, alongside the warm, calm waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Also quaint gazebo and new fishing pier, all within steps of the historic downtown, perfect for lunch and shopping.
The Town’s beach is the only public beach on the Eastern Shore of Virginia that does not require an entrance fee.

East Coast Scenic Shortcut
Whether driving north or south, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel’s nearly 20 mile span showcases the mighty surge of the Atlantic Ocean, the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay, and the soaring grace of an engineering marvel. Both a tourist attraction and a travel convenience, it provides a brand new restaurant (Chesapeake Grill) above the blue waters and gift shop (Virginia Originals), while anglers may leave the boat at home and enjoy fishing year-round from the Sea Gull Pier. Stellar birdwatching is also available on the other manmade islands by permit (www.esvatourism.org/es_get_outside/get_outside_select.asp?cat2ID=25&ref=25)
As the Southern Gateway to the Eastern Shore it connects the peninsula to the Virginia mainland at Virginia Beach.
