Chincoteague Island --America's #1 Beach Town by AOL TRAVEL-- means miles of natural beaches combining Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge & Assateague National Seashore

The small town beach of Cape Charles hugs the Chesapeake Bay as do the sands at Bay Creek Resort & Club, Kiptopeke State Park, Savage Neck Natural Area Preserve, and Sunset Beach Resort.
Most unique is our working waterman's village and undiscovered beaches of Tangier Island.

Out-of-this-world secluded beaches can be found on over a dozen, uninhabited Seaside Barrier islands. Pull up your one private isle with eco-tour guides.

In a hectic world the Eastern Shore's chain of barrier islands are almost mystical in their isolation. No houses, fewer humans, it’s easy to lose yourself in this water-meets-sky world. Professional eco-tour guides provide unique adventures in the rarest of worlds while protecting this fragile environment: Broadwater Bay Ecotours, SouthEast Expeditions, Chincoteague Cruises and Nature Tours, Eastern Shore Adventures, Lyn B Charters, Seaside Ecotours, Shore Thing Charters, Top Dog Charters, Adrenaline High. See why we must protect these ecological gems: http://www.nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/virginia/files/beach_nesting_bird_brochure_panels.pdf

Creating Your Custom Cruise

~ Custom Boat Tours

~ Birding Trips

~ Wildlife Photography

~ Beach Trips to the Barrier Islands

~ Sunset Cruises

Captain Meriwether Payne, a Certified Virginia Ecotour Guide, will create your custom cruise departing from the quaint village of Wachapreague on the Seaside of Virginia's Eastern Shore.

Scenic creeks meander through emerald marshes out to the barrier islands which are part of the Virginia Coast Reserve; a United Nations Biosphere Reserve created by The Nature Conservancy in the early 1970s, and the longest expanse of coastal wilderness remaining on the eastern seaboard of the United States.

These islands are a birders paradise, sheltering more than 250 species of shorebirds, waders, raptors, songbirds, ducks, and geese, which find food in the adjacent bays and salt marshes.  Birding is a year round activity with spring and fall migrating shorebirds, summer nesters and winter waterfowl.  This intricate ecosystem supports hundreds of other species as well and you will also have opportunities to see animals from the all important, yet tiny, fiddler crab, to Diamondback Terrapins, sea turtles, dolphins and the occasional seal.

Beach stops on the islands are easily arranged for picnics, shelling, swimming and we can put the seine net to use and see what creatures are in the water or dig for clams!

Island taxis are available if you simply want to spend the day on the beach; or take a sunset cruise before dinner at one of our fine local restaurants.

Capt. Meriwether is USCG Licensed and insured.   All trips are on a comfortable, new 23' Carolina Skiff carrying up to 6 passengers on trips from 2 to 8 hours and departing from the Wachapreague Town Marina.  Please contact for prices on your custom trip!
